Filmmaking is an exciting, collaborative, creative pursuit and has never been more accessible or affordable. To make good films, however, we need to understand the essentials, using all the tools – and personnel – at our disposal. We can look for information online but there’s nothing better than learning from leading, award-winning filmmakers.
The summer courses offer expert teaching in all aspects of practical film production by our leading, award-winning filmmakers including Director Nadia Tass (Malcolm, The Big Steal, Amy, Matching Jack, Fatal Honeymoon), Screenwriters Mac Gudgeon (Last Ride, The Secret River) and Chris Corbett (The Doctor Blake Mysteries), Sound Designer Craig Carter (Babe, Cut Snake,Healing), Composer Cezary Skubiszewski (Two Hands, Red Dog, The Sapphires) and Cinematographer John Brawley (Offspring, Puberty Blues, A Beautiful Lie) amongst many others.
Areas taught cover screenwriting for features and shorts, directing actors and the film production and sound design, editing, digital effects, film music, screen language documentary filmmaking and a four day cinematography intensive.
The course/s can be taken in full (12 days) or participants can choose their own day and make up their own course.
The Filmmaking Summer School is suitable for teachers and students alike with its practical instruction in feature, short and documentary filmmaking, an introduction to the acting and directing process and presents a realistic picture of the Australian film industry and how to find a place within it.
Highlights of the 2016 summer school are: The 4 day Cinematography Intensive using state-of-the-art equipment and a full gaffer and grip crew, the 2 day Directing Masterclass with Nadia Tass and the revolutionary Low Budget/No Budget Filmmaking using iPhones, Go Pros, Android phone and DSLR cameras.
The Filmmaking Summer School is the only film school taught by Australia’s leading filmmakers.
